Update on the Maui Fundraiser

Good morning,

I wanted to take a minute before I get back to work this morning to give you all an update on the Lahaina, Maui fundraiser.

I cycled the paintings through eBay three times and only one painting sold. I tried promoting through eBay in addition to social media, but eBay’s in site promotion generated fewer views on the listing I promoted than the one I didn’t.

I pulled the listings, and will post the paintings on my website soon.

I did learn some things from this attempt which I am still processing.

My greatest take away is that eBay, with its unwieldy counterintuitive design, and in site promotional failure is not for me. I spent far too much of my time trying to figure out how to accomplish things that should have been simple. Zero stars from a UX standpoint.

I went there in the first place because I liked the idea of the funds passing from the buyer to the organization without my having to cash it out then forward it, but skipping that step didn’t save me more time than I spent navigating the site to get it to do what I wanted.

I am personally bummed out that I didn’t raise money for two of the organizations. The one painting which sold (Yay! Thank you buyer!) is now in its new home, and the funds to Habitat for Humanity Maui have been transferred.

For the next little while, what I’d like to do is spend more time creating and less with the raising awareness. I do feel that the efforts I made to promote the art/issues did have a positive effect, and for that I am truly happy.

Once the related paintings are listed, the proportions will be clear as well as which organization will be linked with the sale of which organization, and the percentage.

I want to thank all the readers and watchers and people who participated in interacting with posts across social media and here for helping and supporting.

The issues in Lahaina continue and the support they need as they move forward is ongoing.

Thank you,

~ Wendy
