Curving

It’s become a way of life

Changing direction

Fate is playing fickle

With my life

Destiny is peering closely

Moving the markers

Removing resources

Adding new elements

There’s no anger with the losses

A sorrow of losing what’s been

Left behind

There’s hope and renewal and optimism

Amidst the frustration and angst

If life settles again

Will I miss the adventures

The stories

The trouble

Someone must stir the pot

Of complacency

Blending the old with the new

The past with the now

No time for stewing

A long hard look at options

Decisive choosing

Another meal, another night

Another triumph, another fight

Struggle is always a part of this life

I weave in the joy

With a practiced maneuver

I’ve been on the mystery path

Not like this one at all

Full of unknown curves

Limited vision

And a pocketful of dreams

Listen

You can hear the changes

Tempo, keys, all laden

With a new song for a new day

Played in a new way

But for how long

Dancing to this beat now

Dancing to this beat now

For now for now for now

Let the future be there

When it arrives I won’t be ready

Even if I’m prepared

Alone is All Right

Alone is alright

I am good company

There are books in the corner

Stories waiting their turn

Violins in the air

Weaving peace in my heart

Twinkle lights twinkling

In bright cheery shapes on the wall

Crossing off quests from the lists that I keep

Each adventure leads to a new mystery

Alone is all right

After all this time

Turn up the music and sing

Turn up the music and dance

I fold myself this way and that way

I stretch out beyond these four walls

In contemplation I grow like a vine up the trellis

My mind flowers and releases each seed of new hope

I am right where I need to be

Doing my thing

I show up with love

Conscious and aware

I choose every day to be here and to stay

To do my best by the people I pass on the way

The secret is that I am never alone

My solitary existence is watered and grown

By the love of my family and friends near and far

Infrequently touching by phone or by message

Our prayers for each other are always a blessing

There is plenty of room

There is plenty of space

In this way

To reach out to people I haven’t met yet

For the ripples of love to touch more than my circle

My purpose is greater than self satisfaction

Playfully playing with life’s interactions

I let down the walls that defined me

Turned up the flames of the fire that refined me

Over and over again I take wing

Flying free from the ashes of yesterday’s woe

You put a torch to a beautiful thing

Burning, I hold your gaze as I sing

Alone is alright

I am good company

Alone is all right

There’s no wrong to this song

I take wing

Common

Unique and distinguished

We yet share

Woe and distress

Common shame and suffering

That in shadows full of dread

We feel them larger and unweildy

Stronger and unyielding

Then they appear once in the light

There are some, it’s true

Who feel not life’s great and awful sadness

Inexplicable angst

Isolated troubles

Suffering of spirit

When life’s gone all awry

Every step is wrong

Rolling on the floor in writhing agony

Alone and yet together

All this pain of life we weather

Hoping for an end

For some peace

For something better

For anything at all to lift us out of sorrow

From the sages to the pages

Sayings written once or twice

Hang on to love

Be open hearted

One more minute

One more hour

When subjected to the fires

Flames upon each wound

A subtle transformation

A phoenix rising plumed

Hold on to love

Keep going

Take your rest along the way

Remember this is common

Part of life to grieve this day

As the tide returns to shore

One wave after another

Joy will find you in the moonlight

Joy will find you in the dusk

Joy will wake you in the morning

Joy returns little by little

In that flower startled beauty

In the clouds suspended there

In the laughter of your loved ones

In the twilight somber falling

Common sorrow

Common beauty

Will find you there upon the sand

Unique and still distinguished

Healing slowly everywhere

Wild Places

I remember how the air wrapped around my arms

A little cooler as the sun lowered out of sight

The dirt path beneath my bare feet

A thrum emanating from the trail

Oh, how bright the moon shined

Not quite full

Small, wispy clouds curling like smoke

Each tree shimmered in the fading light

Some leaves had turned, and some had fallen

Lush green still dominated the canopy

Stepping lightly along the soft earth

What did I follow

Why did I go and not turn back

This mystery ahead calling me

Into the dark forest

The trail narrowed and twisted

I climbed and descended

Touching my palm against this smooth bark

Against that rippled surface

Too low to hear it

I could feel the vibrations

Ahead of me

Glowing faintly brighter before

fading

I reached and stretched

My paws scratched through the surface

My fur brushed against the underbrush

As I ran loping up the mountain

Soon enough

The rest of the pack had joined me

A short stretch of communion

Then they veered off t o the left

To the right

And the summit was mine

I howled

Sending my spirit into the night sky

A flare into the void

I listened for you then

In a palpable silence

In a tense quiet

Again I set loose all my longing

A sound terrible echoing to this day

I am sillouette

A dream

An illusion of loss and desire

Waiting for the answering call

Of your soul

Unquenched in the wild places

Endless desolation

Sometimes I still hear that awful silence

As I add another item

To the cart

And stand in line to check out

mountains covered with snow

In the Forest

What have I become here

In dappled light and sunshine shaded

Growing next to game trails

I grew beyond

I grew beyond each label others placed upon me

I grew beyond boundaries set like stone walls in my mind

I grew beyond it

I grew beyond it all

Wild seeds were spread throughout the understory

Watered by the dew and falling rains

What have I become here

Rising from this dirt and leaves and twigs

Reaching up beyond the detritus of the past

Lifting higher to a new configuration

Walk deep into the forest

With eyes wide open

With listening ears

Walk deeply into the heart of the wood

And see me there

And see me there

Beyond it all
