Been There

Drove around a corner

Straight into the curve

From a dream I had years ago

If only I remembered

The why as well as when

My heart lived on that road

Then

I’ve already been there

I’ve been here some time

Driving hills and valleys

Melting trees as I pass

Flying roads like they were

Lava

The event horizon approaching

Every time I close my eyes

Jumping forward and backward in time

No anchor

Roots

Like a tree spanning generations

My leaves whisper through time

Preparing me always

For love

Let my heart fly

Let my heart live where it will

Watch it multiply

See it grow

Breaking bigger every time

So much pain

So much joy

I know my heart lives with you love

Take care

Take care

Of you

Did You Mind

Did you mind your manners

Did you mind the wait

Do you mind the suffering

Does your mind abate

Have you played your role

Did you take the stage

Have you danced all night

Do you mind your age

Will you mind the changes

That arrive by fate

Will the chance encounters

Bring you to your knees

Do the winds of fortune

Blow in gale or breeze

Will you rise and fly

Or hunker and sink

Are you digging a grave

Do you mind a drink

Have you planned to live

Are you well resigned

For an end is near

Whether life or time

Have you packed your bags

Are you ready for boarding

Did you mind the flight

Are you disembarking

The end is nigh

The end is night

Here comes the sun

A morning bright

Will you begin again

And again begin

With the sweeping dawn

After settling dusk

A new moon

A strange horizon

Do you mind the time

Do you mind the times

Do you mind the mind

Eyes of a Lion

Across the savannah of time

Waving grasses

Isolated trees

So much sky

There are herds roaming

From watering hole

To watering hole

There is the pride that lounges

Rising to stalk when hungry

Sun rises and sets and rises again

Stars move through their patterns in the night

At dusk and dawn

The melody of sunlight

The rhythm of constellations

Eons in minutes

The story told of all that life is

In the eyes of a lion

In the eyes of the antelope

In the flight of birds

And the whisper of grass moved

To dance by the wind

Across the savannah of time

Populations rise and set and rise

Inexorable setting sun

Imperative rising dawn

We sing to mourn the fall of light

We sing to celebrate illumination

We sing life awake

We sing death to sleep

We sing because we cannot stop

We sing in every movement

This song of existence

In every breath

Sung

The eyes of a lion

Looking out across the savannah

No time eternal

Forever fleeting

Temporary Temporal Trouble

I couldn’t find the time

He lost it

An hour here

A few minutes there

She wasted some

And they had plenty

But lost track of it

Minutes seem forever

And years fly by too fast

Winging over every major transitory

Demarcation

It’s been forever

We say

As the clock ticks

Misplaced

Displaced

We want more at times

And less at others

In all the striving

Rushed and waiting

Circling what’s important

Without touching it

Breathing light and fast

Hurried and worried

Until

The moment crashes into time

We can see it splintering

Fragments of our most important

Memories

Sheared off hopes flung far and wide

We let go

We let go

Of what was

Of what might be

This one deep breath

Immediacy

A patient certitude

A tender gratitude

Life

Life is now

Kicked to the Curb (with Audio)

On a dingy curb they sat

She in a dress once white

Grubby ruffles sliding down

From scabbed knees

Bare feet in the gutter

A thin arm wrapped around

His shoulders boney under

A faded blue shirt

His grim shorts matched

The grey cement

She called his name as she

Held him

Grabbed his elbows then

Wove her arms into his

The traffic in front of them

Pulsed in fumes and beats

Music poured out from cracked

Windows

Behind them legs took people

Quickly to their next appointment

She called his name

She called his name

I need you, she said

She called his name

I’m sorry, so sorry, so sorry

She called his name

Please survive

I will find you

In this bubble outside of time

Pact struck

Within the swirling city

That never was

Children who never were young

Spit on palms and clasped hands

Making promises

For the future

Writing hope into the lamplight

Singing dirges to the past

Drawing stick figures in grime

A couple kissing

Two in love

Encircled by an asymmetric heart

And when they woke

To another day in hell

Apart and never parted

Hanging on by a thin thread

Woven from a fragment of a

Dream half remembered

Until the day it was needed

“I’m glad you made it,” she said

“I feel selfish for needing you to survive that.”

“I hope you found some joy in the sunlight,

And laughter in the wind,

And peace in the water,

And love growing up from the soil.”

Possibilities swirled around them

Standing there between the light

And the Abyss

A single path began to coalesce

As he slid his hand into hers

“I said I would find you,” he told her

Every star in the sky became a blossom

Every flower in the meadow burst into flames

Birds became dragons

Whales flew through purple skies

Smoke curled up from stone chimney

A cat slept next to a dog in front of the hearth

They curled together under a blanket on the couch

She began to read to him from an unfinished book

When he closed his eyes for a moment

Under the words she spoke, he heard her call his name

And his name meant home to her

And so he stayed

Bowed Arrows

Shafts of light unbranched

Fledged from heart and mind

Notched against time’s quivering string

Piercing darkened veils of night

Cold crystal truth released

Aloft and straight in flight

Love glides through past

And present plights

In a moment sundering

Generations hold

Cauterized with blazing ice

A new future to unfold

Direct from me to We

Hope for all beholden

Sky Song Melodious

The sun plays a melody upon the clouds

Sweeping dramatically along the edges

Coloring shades at the horizon

Against the blues a sharp distinction

Long and low, they will lie flat

Wind blown harmony

Dancing clouds shifting symphonic

Regaled in hues softly pentatonic

Will you watch in wonder at the performance in the sky

Can you hear the music

As the time passes us by?
