I Dreamt of You Again

We were effortless and new

Out of the corner of my eye

I watched you looking around

As we walked

Buildings of brick and learning

Flanked us

Windows glowing softly warm and bright

We had been here before this night

In another dream

Another time

Would you meet me there again

I wonder

Are we students of this life

Through sacred halls we wander

Our bodies are slumbering far apart

Our spirits light

We didn’t need to speak

We understand each other

Other places other dreams

We’ve met there too it seems

Running though the forests

Bending back the beams

Of time and distance

I look up into your eyes

A beautiful disguise

My heart is caught just for a moment

When you smile

Sleep comes easy to me now

I’m not afraid to fall

You’re out there somewhere waiting

By the lamppost in the hall

Pillars rise above us

The dome is crowned with stars

Tiles are laid before us

There’s an alter growing larger

Where we walk we’re leaving foliage

How the forest grows

With each step we take

Behind us a blooming woodland

Unfolding from the ground

In these dreams we’re never touching

We are walking side by side

Your secret smile is saving

My heart and soul behaving

I know this love is true

Connecting me and you

And if all we ever have

Are midnight dreaming strolls

I will keep the door wide open

I will meet you there each

Time we’re called

Climbing winding stairways

Through the galaxies and halls

Where the books are not yet written

Here in the world we live

Our spirits reading pages

And the writings on the walls

Sleep well my favorite slumber

May your heart rest and be at ease

I will meet you on the shores

Of the ocean made of dreams

Whisper my name when you are tired

When drowsiness evades

I will find you there and bring you with me

We will walk the dreams again

Bones Shake

The bones of the earth rattle

What have you done

Mountain tops tumble

What have you done

Red rivers running rivulets

Through the ruddy landscape

What have you done

Howling winds demand to know

What have you done

Plucking trees from forest beds

Planks sailing through the sky

What have you done

The skeletons are restless

The closet doors won’t hold

The basement is unbedded

The graves grave stories are unfolded

What have you done

Ghostly spirits wailing

Tragedies untold

The bones shake with fury

The bones shake with grace

The finger of the past is pointing

The earth herself is speaking

What have you done

Nothing just or righteous

Be certain

The sky is falling

Blood dripping down the canvas

The past is calling

Unanswerable muted mumbles

To your knees fiends

Your time is up

The forest has risen

Growing wooden stakes

For vampire hearts

The ashes have gathered

The bones shake

The bones shake

And you cannot dance

No more

Ghosts of Ghosts

It’s happened before

After moving

To see the hint of a friend from before

In a person I’m meeting for the first time

Just a ghost of a ghost

A common curve of the chin

Combined with a curiously familiar tilt of the head

It’s that guy’s eyes who remind my of a mentor

And that one’s shape of his head and how his teeth flash

When he laughs

Which whispers to me of another

It’s in a gesture reminiscent that she used

Which tells me a story of time long passed

Not for the first time have I wondered if the Universe

Ran out of templates

Cobbling together new people from bits of the old ones

We’re not snowflakes formed crystalline from moisture

In the frozen air

We are passed down and spliced and rearranged

Through the complex genetic shuffling

We are mirrors of each other

We are spirits grounded

We are expressions of something more than ourselves

And we are haunted

By ghosts of ghosts

Carefully knitting the past to the future

With present yarns

At the Water Met

I searched among the rocks for secrets

Listened to the waves’ sweet song

Trees dancing along the sandy shore

I watched the wind around them twirl

To the gentle rhythmic water slept

An unacknowledged force within me

The music of the water met

Serene and peaceful spirit

Each time they tried to wake her

I sang her back to sleep

Soothing, hushed, and lullabied

In dreams of mists and veils

Let her sleep. She’s seen enough.

The world is tough and worn.

Let us lie here in the ocean

At the water met

At the water met

She can float away the troubles

Send them out to sea

Let her sleep, please, don’t disturb her rest

They plucked and pleaded

Whined and needed

Poked and prodded

Spoke and nodded

Woke her at the water met

Woke her at the water met

With her waking came the aching

Of a thousand years of pain

Her cry echoed ‘cross the cosmos

To a planet far away

The howl resounded smartly

And the stars shook just the same

Came the answer focused

Sister we do hear you

We are on the way

The earth cracked and up the dragon crept

A pond became a lake

The sky flared in brilliant colors

At the water met

At the water met

The dragons are awakened now

From where their spirits slept

The music cannot hold them now

Upon the wind they’re swept

A reckoning past due

The ancient bargain kept

Where at the water met

Where at the water met

Quantum Treasure (with audio)

In isolated spaces

There’s room enough

To wonder

Are our spirits

Made of light or

Is light made of our spirits

Are we waves or matter

When we’re still

Or when we move

Is the feeling that is under

The feelings that we choose

Is it love or is it plunder

That we stand to gain

Or lose

Daily Poem 10/31/220

From the earth we crawled

To the earth we shall return

Spirits in the flesh

Flesh imbued with spirit

Listen to the wind

Hear the night

When the moon is full

And the stars are bright

The owl will sing

The wolves will howl

Through the veil

The rest will call

What story will they give you

What tale will heal your heart

Blow the candle out and listen

To the words out of the dark
