Gaining Ground

This tiny spoon digging

Moving mountains

Hollowing out valleys

Terraforming

Terrafirming

A changescape

An escape

I have reformed the world

Bouldered pebbles rolling down the sides

Miniature models

Of a greater space

I am a goddess here with my dress

Grass stained and smeared in mud

Creating new worlds out of my destruction

Until snacks and naps

Call me home

I Drowned

In the bog I lay

Sinking deeper into sludge

Wrapped in silt and mud

Dampened by these roots and reeds

Birds on rushes singing dirge

A heron standing vigil on the shore

I sing I scream no longer

Muted underwater

Dragonflies dancing in the air

Above me darting daring

And deeper dreaming me

Opens eyes which cannot see

I’m made of clay and squirming things

Becoming grass and greener springs

Returned to source and sourceless born

Alive and dead and

Dead alive

My spirit mired in weighted worries

Sending up a single shoot

Without the mud no blooming blossomed

This concentrated beauty bridging

Otherworld and worldly others

Unfolded petals worshipping the sun

Floating on serenity and calm

I was undone

Shaped and molded

Celestial bonded

Seeking heaven

Rising from this shrouded wetland

Just to hold your hand

Just to hold your hand

My Name is Mud

  • My name is Mud
  • That’s what she told me
  • She treated me like dirt
  • Something to trod upon
  • My life had value only to myself
  • I would have gladly traded it for love
  • For just a moment of love
  • I tried to trade my life for love
  • To take the bad end of a dirty bargain
  • It’s harder to die than I expected
  • More difficult to let go of that final breath
  • Something within me still longs to live
  • Something sings
  • Something loves
  • I have no need anymore
  • My life is full of simple pleasures
  • A well cooked meal
  • The slant of sunlight through the window
  • The sound of my loved ones across a digital field
  • And from the mud
  • A single lotus blooms
  • My name has flowered into beauty
  • My name is Beauty
  • And there is no mother to silence my song
