Missing Nothing

I made room

Expanded

Fit love into sun filled mornings

Woodland walks

Midnight songs

Moonlit rambles

Between times so full

I never stopped

No need to stop

No lack therein

Nothing missing

Like water carving out the rock

Like earthquakes opening the ground

Like giving away things no longer used

I made room

Now I am open and not full

Of the light that used to shine

I turn under the silver moon

Slowly under a slivered shard

Of what had been robust and

Bright

To myself I am returned

Missing nothing

But that song

That shimmering glow

Just salty rivers running muddy

From these eyes down to the sea

I walk these sandy shores again

Under the stars

Just me

Common

Unique and distinguished

We yet share

Woe and distress

Common shame and suffering

That in shadows full of dread

We feel them larger and unweildy

Stronger and unyielding

Then they appear once in the light

There are some, it’s true

Who feel not life’s great and awful sadness

Inexplicable angst

Isolated troubles

Suffering of spirit

When life’s gone all awry

Every step is wrong

Rolling on the floor in writhing agony

Alone and yet together

All this pain of life we weather

Hoping for an end

For some peace

For something better

For anything at all to lift us out of sorrow

From the sages to the pages

Sayings written once or twice

Hang on to love

Be open hearted

One more minute

One more hour

When subjected to the fires

Flames upon each wound

A subtle transformation

A phoenix rising plumed

Hold on to love

Keep going

Take your rest along the way

Remember this is common

Part of life to grieve this day

As the tide returns to shore

One wave after another

Joy will find you in the moonlight

Joy will find you in the dusk

Joy will wake you in the morning

Joy returns little by little

In that flower startled beauty

In the clouds suspended there

In the laughter of your loved ones

In the twilight somber falling

Common sorrow

Common beauty

Will find you there upon the sand

Unique and still distinguished

Healing slowly everywhere

In A Row

My mind is arguing

Fighting

Fighting

Tossing and turning

Trying to plant thoughts

Evenly spaced

In a logical progression

All in chaos

Some escape

Like artists

Deep into the woods

With an easel

To paint wild creatures

And draw imagination

Out from under the canopy

Some take to wing

Like angels soaring

Clouds and Heaven and hymns

Only touching the solid earth for a moment

To Bless and disappear

Some creep in like nightmares

Sinewy tendrils of darkness choking

Winding and climbing

Cut them quickly before they bloom

Before they

Before

Hurry

Please

But I glow brighter

They shrink back

Slithering away

Then

I am dancing in the storm of thought

In rain without the acidic touch

I am light

Lighter still

Still lighting the flow

Still flowing the light

Hearts and Stone

They hang like chimes

Those hearts dangling over earth and stone

To hear their song in the hushed morning mist

Singing tales of brokenness and healing

Is to wander wonderingly into a pinpoint light

Soft and warm against the cool, hard texture

Of stone

Is to remember being wrapped in your arms

In a way that hasn’t happened yet

In a way that may never happen

Except in the floral chimes

Suspended

Protected

Swaying beautifully

Lit from within

Let us soften love

And meet one day on the path

Through fog and forest

Let us soften love

Until the light of us

Becomes one

As the stone blossoms

And hearts softly sing

What Did You Contemplate

I watched your face

A thousand ways you’d hide

In front of me

Fingers running lightly over your mouth

Lest the words escape

Dammed and damned

A shrug – the answer composed

Of a book of words unsaid

“I don’t know.”

But you did know

Maybe

Your secrets are your own

I didn’t pry

Your private thoughts remained

Within the cage

Built over times unknown to me

And yet

The light came through the gaps

And glimpses caught

Of unrelenting pain

Did it relent finally

Did it ease at last

I’m sure I don’t know

And yet I hope

That you are out there with your

Happiness unbound

Sharing all the words you

Kept from me with

Someone safe for you

Steady for you

Someone you could

Be in revelation

The best we were for

Each other were

As friends

And the times we

Held each other in a

More intimate embrace

Less intimate

More insulated

We stood for a time

On and off

Back to back

In a world which would pry

Secrets from us

If we dropped our guard

And so we

Did not drop it

Completely

Not with each other

Not with each other

Not with the world

Then

Mine have all escaped now

Running havoc

If you see them

Let them be

They are as free as me

Small Illumination

When the night falls silently

Cloaked over the restless day

Fears of the dark and unknown

Rising within and surrounding without

Each step feels fraught

Will the ground hold

Will the path stay steady

Is there a missed obstruction

Feet tripping over downed branches

Choices not taken or rued

How the heart beats faster

Shallows in the breath

The ominous quiet pervades

Calm is the challenge

Centering within

Cultivating a small illumination

That window to an infinite light

Texturing a peace

Like still water refelecting

The light of the round moon

Whole

Through the mists of fate

One sure step taken

To reveal the next

This is how, then

The journey resumes

In this small illuminated place

Encompass Me

If I am drowning in you

Let me not breathe air again

If you are darkness

Keep all light from me

If you are light

May shade never find me

If you are beauty

Let all that is not beautiful be repelled

If you are truth

Can deceit not wither and die at last

Encompass me

My breath

My heart

My spirit

My love

I within you

You within me

Home, indestructible

This is love then

This unity of spirit

The light breeze on bare skin

A wonder shining in eyes contemplating of heaven

Feet ground into mud

Beings of fire, earth, water, air

Flames have no edges

We burn together in a cosmic votive

Cardamom scent rising

As I encompass you

Encompass me

No Moon on Sunday

Though I sleep deeply and well

Some nights the glow of the full moon

Pulls me from my bed into the quiet

Early morning darkness

To admire her fullness

I have brought chairs out into lawns

From the Caribbean to Vermont

From the Midwest to Saudi Arabia

Wide awake in calm reverence

To sit and meditate upon her face

On mornings like this

On mornings just like this

The sun has bid me rise

A golden beginning to the day

There is a light weight upon the morning

Of all the early mornings when

Roused from slumber to alertness

When I crept through dark abodes

While others slept unknowing

To keep vigil as the sun renewed

A hope as secret and as known

As there could be

That there be love and meaning

And goodness in the world

And in me

A shining promise that this could

Be so

The light finds me waiting

For that gentle touch upon the sky

Timelessly marking time

Just born

I am as old as the earth

As old as the stars

I have just begun to shine

Quantum Treasure (with audio)

In isolated spaces

There’s room enough

To wonder

Are our spirits

Made of light or

Is light made of our spirits

Are we waves or matter

When we’re still

Or when we move

Is the feeling that is under

The feelings that we choose

Is it love or is it plunder

That we stand to gain

Or lose
