Bitter Falls the Day

Steamrolled and tired

A downward spiral

Petals hit the ground

The flowers gone

The seeds have fallen

Winter frost bites hard

And fast

In hearts like mine

And yours

And theirs

A loving flame that

Raged

Burned and flared in these

Conflagrating times

We share

Gone to ground

Burrowed deeply in the earth

In silent midnight caves

Held by stone and rock and clay

Spirit flowing out and in

To the past and back again

We meet our wounds

We heal each blast

We nurture hope

And in return

Are nurtured as we

Begin to climb

Out of the dirt

Out of the grime to

Rise again renewed

The seeds crack open

Far and wide

We grow

We grow

We grow

Again

Ajar

We stand at the threshold

This door ajar

Speaking quietly across

A boundary

Will knots in our hearts untangle

Can we knit together a vision shared

Weave a future out of dreams unspoken

Trepidation

Anticipation

Would we step through into each other’s world

Does the sun shift in the sky

Does the moon rock softly in the night

Does the earth wobble in its rotation

Take this thread and love its brightness

Shape and form

See the tapestry holding every soul

We fit in there

Our shades and lightness

A small story within the tallest tale

Writing our future with hook and stitch

An embroidered love

Blooming in the corners

We stand at the threshold

Door ajar

Speaking quietly

Of everything but love

Speaking quietly

Making room for love

Raining Hearts

Shadows overcasting

The sun cannot be seen

My heart is bright and singing

Watching the rain that’s falling

Music to my ears

Music in my veins

The rhythm sets my toes to tapping

There’s sparkles in my eyes

It’s raining hearts today

Smiles are all I see

Reflected in the faces that I meet

Reflected in the passing glance

Of my reflection

Dawn arrived with sunshine

I can feel behind the clouds

The rain will move along in time

The sky will be revealed

With upturned faces we can

Stand upon the earth

With sunlight we’ll be dreaming

Of some better days to come

Halves

We split apart in the beginning

During the great expansion

Hearts breaking open

With each loss growing larger

With each good-bye softening

With each morning shining

Though cold dark times we flailed

The great failings

Huge mistakes

Mispoken words

Storms surrounded us

Blowing strong against us

Until we were reduced

Bare bones and sparkling spirits

Wrestling demons and decisions

There was that perfect hello

When all that had been awry

Clicked into place

The great turning of keys in locks

Chains falling unneeded to the ground

Now we fly through clear blue skies

Skimming and diving and circling

Choosing and creating a nest in a tall tree

Under the eaves

Under the daytime moon

We dream soft and pure

True and good

Of that peaceful lake within

Whose shore we never leave behind

Again
