Hibernation

Calling back that vital force

(it’s life)

Snugged into self soft and tight

(it’s life)

Condensed and quiet beating heart

(it’s life)

Withdrawn in song and strife

(it’s life)

Steady centered solo sleep

(it’s life)

To lick the wounds and rest

(it’s life)

Await for spring’s warm breath

(it’s life)

Ghostly shading forest paths

(it’s life)

Silent midnight flying owl

(it’s life)

Bring wisdom to my dreams

(it’s life

From rain to creek to river stream

(it’s life

Torrents of cleansing water sheen

(it’s life

New sprouts to burst again

it’s life

While winter freezes over

This heart a little worn

Will rise slowly in the rising sun

Will increase pace and run

I touched the sun

How dangerous

I touched the sun

How droll

I sleep through winter cold

And in the spring unfold

I live in my imagination

For this season, hibernation

For this reason, incantations

Chanting gently through the night

It’s life with suffering and pain

It’s life with joy and happiness

Cycling through the ever changing

Landscapes of this life

Unregarded

Unremarked and solitary

Did you find yourself unraveled

Are the trees whispering your name

When you walk beneath their branches

Are the birds still singing of your passage

There below

Do the chipmunks and the squirrels

Chatter on in playful sparring

Are the feelings in your breast drawing swords

And gone a warring

Does the battle rage within you

Under the blue and open sky

Waving grasses lightly browned

Do they bow as you walk by

Is the wind bringing you messages

To the spirit that you carry

Urging you to hurry

Do not linger

Do not tarry

In the coldest morning’s touch

Frosted lashes

Cold dark tales

Are you running toward a future

Are you fleeing from what was

Will you stop and see the beauty

Close your eyes and just step off

Too many ways to go along

Too many ways to stop

Can you hear the murmur there

Beneath the traffic and the noise

Unwrap the bandage from the wound

Let it seep and let it pour

You’re almost there

You’ve almost made it

Just one more rise to reach

To feel the sun

That shining balm

Central star

And come undone

In this quiet morment

Right before the twilight

And the dawn

Love is chasing down your heart

Love is waiting at the bend

Love is the path on which you run

Love is the stars at night

Love is the flaming dawn

Love is the shimmering

Glimmering

Light within you

Love has been there all along

Imperfect Love

My heart loves perfectly

Wholly

Without terms and conditions

My heart is caged

Trapped

Within me

By mind and ego and scars

The past warps expressions

In the rush to emote

I trip over words

Phrased poorly

I am tactless

The worse it goes

The worse I make it

Stumbling and desperate

To give and share the perfect love I feel

The more I try

The more I fall

Stumbling over broken shards of truth

This healing is too hard, I cry

I squash the ego with humiliation

I’m sorry, I say

I’m sorry I’m broken

I’m sorry I wasn’t healed enough

I’m sorry I survived this way

I couldn’t find another way to make it

I couldn’t find a different way to live than this one

I contorted

To be loved

To be understood

I try to be what you need and what you want

Yet in the end I am just this

Mess of partially healed

Partially wounded

Partially wise

Partially healing

Partially damaged

Partially processed

Parts

I am a stew of emotions

I am a bird in flight in the rain

I am the limping wolf

The deer tangled in barbed wire

My heart is caught and wild and pure

If I knew how I would be only peace

If I knew how my words would only soothe

If I knew how my actions would only heal

If I knew how to be invincible

I would cease panicking

Stop suffering

End doubt

Even rocks are not invincible

The world itself suffers

All of life is a blend of love and pain

Light and shadow

I am a layered painting

I am a song of dissonance and harmony

And so are you

And so are you

Loving imperfectly like me

Being imperfectly loved like me

We muddle through it

Wading through this life

Knee deep in mystery

Bog sucking boots

Trying to find dry land again

We slog through the difficulties

Until we’re safe on the forest path

Filtered sunlight and dry trails

Our love growing more confident

Skewed a little more to perfect

A little further way from pained

And we walk joyous together

In the welcoming woods

I Left You In the Mirror

Maybe you are crying still

Our eyes met briefly through the pane

When I walked away with no glance back

I thought I heard your hand tap gently

On the golden gilded frame

It’s been years since I last saw you there

Generations past

I think I see your shadow waver

Glimpses through the looking glass

I shut my eyes and turn away

This path is long and neverending

Quietly descending

Then loudly challenging the force

Of gravity’s heel clutching fingers

I won’t look

I left you in the mirror

And as far as I can care to know

You’re standing in there still

Yet I write these letters

Hoping that you’ll see

We’ve almost made it home now

Almost there

It won’t be long now

Almost free

And in the morning misty air

Shower fogged and steamy mirror

I thought I saw you wave to me

Still safe behind the glass

I held your gaze a moment

And made peace with the past

I went into my draft folder to delete this morning’s draft and found this titled, but unwritten post. As they do sometimes, the words flowed easily. When I went looking for a photo, I found this one captivating, and better than the image I thought I had been seeking.

Hearts and Stone

They hang like chimes

Those hearts dangling over earth and stone

To hear their song in the hushed morning mist

Singing tales of brokenness and healing

Is to wander wonderingly into a pinpoint light

Soft and warm against the cool, hard texture

Of stone

Is to remember being wrapped in your arms

In a way that hasn’t happened yet

In a way that may never happen

Except in the floral chimes

Suspended

Protected

Swaying beautifully

Lit from within

Let us soften love

And meet one day on the path

Through fog and forest

Let us soften love

Until the light of us

Becomes one

As the stone blossoms

And hearts softly sing

Wendy Says Things Episode 2 Part 2.5 is Out Now

On Wendy Says Things, we have been talking with Tonya, a health and wellness practitioner, and long time activist. There’s still time to catch up on the podcasts before part 3 of Episode 2 comes out. There are plenty of resources, articles, and links in the show notes.

If you’re here for the poetry, more will be coming soon!

There are no coincidences, they are spiritually aligned events falling into the pattern as they were meant to.” ~ Tonya Floyd

And so, what we do is we minimize things that happened in the past that were traumatic. We use nostalgia to distance ourselves from the things in the past that we could bring forward that are positive when we should be doing the opposite. You know, with our traumas we could bring them forward to heal. With the things that are nourishing, we can bring them forward to nourish us.” ~ Wendy Kheiry

Almost Love

I felt the absence of you when you left

A glance to share an inside joke

Shorthand to understanding with a word

Missed the easy rhythm long established

Of daily routines set by mutual interaction

It was almost love

Well it was love but not love, love

Not the kind of love you’d walk through fire for

Or the kind that would burn down all your walls

Not the get to the bottom of things love

Nor the we can work this out together if we try kind of love

It was only if it’s convenient kind of love

As long as we stay comfortably on the surface kind of love

And healing’s okay for you, you mess

But I’m just fine

Sure you’re just fine

It was almost love

Almost fine

Almost good enough for now

It was easily replaced for you

Settle in another mess

Almost love’s no longer right for me

I want the burning, yearning, growing kind of love

An intimacy beyond surface

A healing intertwined throughout a journey

A spiritual connection

A divine interaction

I’m almost there, love

I’m almost love, now

Just one more step into the infinite

Dawning light of spirit

This love is freedom

No almost in sight

Dandelion Dreams

The seeds are away

Scattered on the wind

Feathered dreams

Shine for a moment

Brightly in the sun

Here I stand

A little bent

Stripped of the beauty

Of my youth

But I am still

Good medicine

Deep roots

And green leaves

In spring

I will be

Good medicine

Again
