Unspoken

Treasure, trash, and fallen blossom

What have you here in common

Laying, lying languid

On the ground

Decayed and disregarded

Bound for compost breaking down

Let loose the seeds of hopes unspoken

Let them roll and blow into the richest

Barest seam

Cracked rocks cupping dust

Of years now gone and passed

Grab hold of just one ripening

Swelling bursting dream

Each emotion watering

Rivulets and streams

Finding purchase in the barren

This treasure grows from both

The pleasant and the scream

Each rooted tendril seeking

Necessary nutrients embedded

In the rocky bottom of the deepest

Silent permutations

While rising from the surface of

A broken earth

Sprouts brand new incarnation

Incantated leaves

Unfurling and unfolding

Wings of every quiet quest

Growing there unspoken

Shoots of happiness

Shedding

To be dragged loose

Falling finitely

Clutched tightly by gravity

Graveness

Graven

In stark relief

Colors beginning to fade

Testament to a vibrant life

Outlined and defined

By every passing opinion

Until it is shed

The thoughts slipping away

Beliefs untangled

Definitions unknotted

An ongoing undoing

Stomping a new beat on a hard earth

Vibrations coming into play

Lower and higher

Searching for depth among the heavens

Constellations of meaning

In pinpoints of light

I see you there

Your light flickering in the dark

A divine dance to an amorphous rhythm

We shed

We shed

We shed

And when we let go

The Cosmos sighs in satisfaction

Be fully

To fully be in space

In time

Every day

Every moment

Spreading wings to fly

Free from the earth

And soar joyfully

Released

Hearts and Stone

They hang like chimes

Those hearts dangling over earth and stone

To hear their song in the hushed morning mist

Singing tales of brokenness and healing

Is to wander wonderingly into a pinpoint light

Soft and warm against the cool, hard texture

Of stone

Is to remember being wrapped in your arms

In a way that hasn’t happened yet

In a way that may never happen

Except in the floral chimes

Suspended

Protected

Swaying beautifully

Lit from within

Let us soften love

And meet one day on the path

Through fog and forest

Let us soften love

Until the light of us

Becomes one

As the stone blossoms

And hearts softly sing

Encompass Me

If I am drowning in you

Let me not breathe air again

If you are darkness

Keep all light from me

If you are light

May shade never find me

If you are beauty

Let all that is not beautiful be repelled

If you are truth

Can deceit not wither and die at last

Encompass me

My breath

My heart

My spirit

My love

I within you

You within me

Home, indestructible

This is love then

This unity of spirit

The light breeze on bare skin

A wonder shining in eyes contemplating of heaven

Feet ground into mud

Beings of fire, earth, water, air

Flames have no edges

We burn together in a cosmic votive

Cardamom scent rising

As I encompass you

Encompass me

No Moon on Sunday

Though I sleep deeply and well

Some nights the glow of the full moon

Pulls me from my bed into the quiet

Early morning darkness

To admire her fullness

I have brought chairs out into lawns

From the Caribbean to Vermont

From the Midwest to Saudi Arabia

Wide awake in calm reverence

To sit and meditate upon her face

On mornings like this

On mornings just like this

The sun has bid me rise

A golden beginning to the day

There is a light weight upon the morning

Of all the early mornings when

Roused from slumber to alertness

When I crept through dark abodes

While others slept unknowing

To keep vigil as the sun renewed

A hope as secret and as known

As there could be

That there be love and meaning

And goodness in the world

And in me

A shining promise that this could

Be so

The light finds me waiting

For that gentle touch upon the sky

Timelessly marking time

Just born

I am as old as the earth

As old as the stars

I have just begun to shine

Beneath

I am over gravity

Beneath the skies

I am underwhelmed

and

Overappreciated

Digging myself into the earth

Up to my knees

up to my thighs

If I plant myself

Will I sprout leaves

Will I fly

But no

Not that

I am on top of the dirt

Walking nowhere

Taking nothing with me

And leaving that behind too

I Swallowed the Sky – 12/3/2020

Lying in the grass

Watching clouds float above me

The humming of the bees, and bugs

Were toning among the flowers

While dreaming shapes were wound

Up in the air, I wished to fly

But it was not to be

There were no wings for flight

I could not remember how to launch

Gravity clenched me close to earth

Gravity cinched me anchored to the earth

And so my eyes were widened drenched

In fancies of dust and mist

Until I swallowed every shape, and

Every curve

And every wish

There dragons, fish, and dolphins

I ate them up with sight

Faces of the mermaids, and the trolls

I lie there in the grass until I started getting cold

I lie there in the grass until I started getting old

I lie there in the grass and now I’ve turned to stone

When you pass me on your journey

Lay your hand upon my seams

Those cracks and divots peeling are where

The early morning steam

Releases each and every wish I ate

Releasing every dream

Don’t linger long within my meadow

Touch me swiftly

Move along

The gravity is strong here

The weight of all that’s wrong here

Caught between the dreams and earth

Caught between the earth and dreams

The Deep Woods – Daily Poem 12/2/2020

There in the deep woods

Where everyone ends up some time

Despair grows into

Loneliness

Weary and afraid to take another step

Dark, quiet solitude will rise

Hush, darling

Hush, darling

Listen to the earth as you press your ear to

The soil full of life

Galaxies of teeming multitudes

She speaks in whispers to your heart

Reminding you to breathe

Sink deeper into the cave of the great mother

She is holding you now as you weep

In this cocoon you will be transformed

From this moment forward you can fly

All hopes rising from the earth

In blooms, and bark, and padding creatures

Now you are hope for others

Holding gently to their hands when they, too

Enter the deep woods in the darkest night
