Watching the Sunset

I sit on hard stones

Feet dangling

Heels bumping, scraping

Soles finding purchase

At last

The sky mellowed in periwinkle

Above begins the descent

To meet me where I am

Without you

Here in the dark

In this cold

In this void

Faint flickering lights

Parsecs apart

An impossible distance

Against all reason

The fire within me

Answers the sudden flare

of orange in the heavens

I am flame and heat

Living light

I am whole and healed

Connected to

Every star burning

In this cosmos

Eternal

Shedding

To be dragged loose

Falling finitely

Clutched tightly by gravity

Graveness

Graven

In stark relief

Colors beginning to fade

Testament to a vibrant life

Outlined and defined

By every passing opinion

Until it is shed

The thoughts slipping away

Beliefs untangled

Definitions unknotted

An ongoing undoing

Stomping a new beat on a hard earth

Vibrations coming into play

Lower and higher

Searching for depth among the heavens

Constellations of meaning

In pinpoints of light

I see you there

Your light flickering in the dark

A divine dance to an amorphous rhythm

We shed

We shed

We shed

And when we let go

The Cosmos sighs in satisfaction

Be fully

To fully be in space

In time

Every day

Every moment

Spreading wings to fly

Free from the earth

And soar joyfully

Released

At the Water Met

I searched among the rocks for secrets

Listened to the waves’ sweet song

Trees dancing along the sandy shore

I watched the wind around them twirl

To the gentle rhythmic water slept

An unacknowledged force within me

The music of the water met

Serene and peaceful spirit

Each time they tried to wake her

I sang her back to sleep

Soothing, hushed, and lullabied

In dreams of mists and veils

Let her sleep. She’s seen enough.

The world is tough and worn.

Let us lie here in the ocean

At the water met

At the water met

She can float away the troubles

Send them out to sea

Let her sleep, please, don’t disturb her rest

They plucked and pleaded

Whined and needed

Poked and prodded

Spoke and nodded

Woke her at the water met

Woke her at the water met

With her waking came the aching

Of a thousand years of pain

Her cry echoed ‘cross the cosmos

To a planet far away

The howl resounded smartly

And the stars shook just the same

Came the answer focused

Sister we do hear you

We are on the way

The earth cracked and up the dragon crept

A pond became a lake

The sky flared in brilliant colors

At the water met

At the water met

The dragons are awakened now

From where their spirits slept

The music cannot hold them now

Upon the wind they’re swept

A reckoning past due

The ancient bargain kept

Where at the water met

Where at the water met

Daily Poem 11/16/2020

One day I read our story in the stars

How the light within us came to be

Connected from the origin divine

To suffer when we separated

To shine when we combine

All of nature raves in celebration

Blossoming in gardens

Winging up through velvet skies

Branches dancing ecstasy in syncopated breezes

The tides will wax and wane

To the rhythm just the same

As the beating of our hearts in time to

Mitigate the pains

Across the Milky way we’re swimming

Closer together

Faster spinning

Each spark thrown igniting starbirth

We are creating

Our spirits permeating

All of life sublime

This love rolls on eternal

Rocked on cosmic ocean waves
