Dig Out

Push aside the rubble

Of that collapsed life

How it crumbled down around you

Buried you under all you could not do

The beams across your legs

Fallen structures in your mind

All the expectations that they told you

Held treasured happiness unkind

Crawl away from every moment

Tangled ankles tightly wound

The edifice of other’s imperfect ideation

Of a life of satisfaction

Would not stand firm around the fire in your soul

You burned it down

Smoldering and crumbled

From the ashes you have rumbled

To wander and to search now

For something ethereal and true

Far out of reach

Not well defined

Balanced on the wire

Of uncertainty and exploration

Through mists of dreams anticipation

Don’t look back

Don’t look down

Each step takes your full concentration

Until you reach new ground

Blaze the trail through mystery

Among the trees of wisdom

Revive your spirit

Drink deeply from the clear calm lake

Of peaceful contemplation

You were meant to wonder

Your were meant to question

You are here to redefine

You are here to realign

Leave the ruins there

To be covered by the vines

Let the past be fallow

Plant your dream into the wind

All your intentions changing patterns

Circle thrice and say the words

Singing chanting writing

The world is waiting for your voice

For your stepping into power

Dance the dance that’s dancing

The music of your life

Something greater than yourself

Is emerging

Calling you away from strife

One more step and you can fly now

One more turn and you will soar

The wings that you’ve been growing

Snapping open

Stretching wide

Fly up with me, my friend

We meet again outside of time

We meet again outside of time

Hibernation

Calling back that vital force

(it’s life)

Snugged into self soft and tight

(it’s life)

Condensed and quiet beating heart

(it’s life)

Withdrawn in song and strife

(it’s life)

Steady centered solo sleep

(it’s life)

To lick the wounds and rest

(it’s life)

Await for spring’s warm breath

(it’s life)

Ghostly shading forest paths

(it’s life)

Silent midnight flying owl

(it’s life)

Bring wisdom to my dreams

(it’s life

From rain to creek to river stream

(it’s life

Torrents of cleansing water sheen

(it’s life

New sprouts to burst again

it’s life

While winter freezes over

This heart a little worn

Will rise slowly in the rising sun

Will increase pace and run

I touched the sun

How dangerous

I touched the sun

How droll

I sleep through winter cold

And in the spring unfold

I live in my imagination

For this season, hibernation

For this reason, incantations

Chanting gently through the night

It’s life with suffering and pain

It’s life with joy and happiness

Cycling through the ever changing

Landscapes of this life

Fallen

I knew for a moment

The freedom of flight

Taking wing and soaring

Against the auburn sky

I knew for a moment

The safety of a place

Nestled in and comforting

Wrapped in quiet den

I knew for a moment

Where I belonged

Walking wooded trails

Loathe for the path to end

Autumn arrived and with the leaves

I drifted down from branches

To lie here on the damp November ground

Staring lonely at the sky now

Dreaming once again

Of flight

Sinking slowly into cold earth

Sinking coldly into dirt

Saturday Evening Look Up

I searched heaven and hell

For your heart

Stepped along sandy beaches

Peered into the waves and foam

Gazed into fading sun and firelight

Listened for the beat of you

When tides came in

Heard your song upon the gentle breeze

Maybe I am flying now

Following this trail

Of clouds

Maybe I am standing still

Losing all my petals

About to go to seed

While the world turns carelessly

The rain pours down senselessly

While your song wavers among stars and dirt

Unable or unwilling

To come home

I am unable or unwilling

To come home

All that remains is the search

For heart and home

And a song that changes

But never ends

Common

Unique and distinguished

We yet share

Woe and distress

Common shame and suffering

That in shadows full of dread

We feel them larger and unweildy

Stronger and unyielding

Then they appear once in the light

There are some, it’s true

Who feel not life’s great and awful sadness

Inexplicable angst

Isolated troubles

Suffering of spirit

When life’s gone all awry

Every step is wrong

Rolling on the floor in writhing agony

Alone and yet together

All this pain of life we weather

Hoping for an end

For some peace

For something better

For anything at all to lift us out of sorrow

From the sages to the pages

Sayings written once or twice

Hang on to love

Be open hearted

One more minute

One more hour

When subjected to the fires

Flames upon each wound

A subtle transformation

A phoenix rising plumed

Hold on to love

Keep going

Take your rest along the way

Remember this is common

Part of life to grieve this day

As the tide returns to shore

One wave after another

Joy will find you in the moonlight

Joy will find you in the dusk

Joy will wake you in the morning

Joy returns little by little

In that flower startled beauty

In the clouds suspended there

In the laughter of your loved ones

In the twilight somber falling

Common sorrow

Common beauty

Will find you there upon the sand

Unique and still distinguished

Healing slowly everywhere

Maybes and Hedged Bets

Look again where you did hesitate

Look close at your regrets

Check all that you refused to risk

Because you hedged your bets

Take note of how you let you down

Take stock of what you lost

Remember that the only way to win

Is to risk what you have not

Next time that you say maybe

Closely analyze the odds

Make sure to weigh regret

Times three or maybe more

When opportunity is gone again

She may burn that motherfucking door

Unregarded

Unremarked and solitary

Did you find yourself unraveled

Are the trees whispering your name

When you walk beneath their branches

Are the birds still singing of your passage

There below

Do the chipmunks and the squirrels

Chatter on in playful sparring

Are the feelings in your breast drawing swords

And gone a warring

Does the battle rage within you

Under the blue and open sky

Waving grasses lightly browned

Do they bow as you walk by

Is the wind bringing you messages

To the spirit that you carry

Urging you to hurry

Do not linger

Do not tarry

In the coldest morning’s touch

Frosted lashes

Cold dark tales

Are you running toward a future

Are you fleeing from what was

Will you stop and see the beauty

Close your eyes and just step off

Too many ways to go along

Too many ways to stop

Can you hear the murmur there

Beneath the traffic and the noise

Unwrap the bandage from the wound

Let it seep and let it pour

You’re almost there

You’ve almost made it

Just one more rise to reach

To feel the sun

That shining balm

Central star

And come undone

In this quiet morment

Right before the twilight

And the dawn

Love is chasing down your heart

Love is waiting at the bend

Love is the path on which you run

Love is the stars at night

Love is the flaming dawn

Love is the shimmering

Glimmering

Light within you

Love has been there all along

Unspoken

Treasure, trash, and fallen blossom

What have you here in common

Laying, lying languid

On the ground

Decayed and disregarded

Bound for compost breaking down

Let loose the seeds of hopes unspoken

Let them roll and blow into the richest

Barest seam

Cracked rocks cupping dust

Of years now gone and passed

Grab hold of just one ripening

Swelling bursting dream

Each emotion watering

Rivulets and streams

Finding purchase in the barren

This treasure grows from both

The pleasant and the scream

Each rooted tendril seeking

Necessary nutrients embedded

In the rocky bottom of the deepest

Silent permutations

While rising from the surface of

A broken earth

Sprouts brand new incarnation

Incantated leaves

Unfurling and unfolding

Wings of every quiet quest

Growing there unspoken

Shoots of happiness

Momentary Lapse of Irrationality

The clear reflection of a pond

A mirror without cracks

No warping vision

The gentlest of truths

A soft love

Freely given

Under a shedding sky

Wrung droplets misting

We sleep

Buffered in the warmth

Of bricks and bones

Always home
