Daily Poem 10/31/220

From the earth we crawled

To the earth we shall return

Spirits in the flesh

Flesh imbued with spirit

Listen to the wind

Hear the night

When the moon is full

And the stars are bright

The owl will sing

The wolves will howl

Through the veil

The rest will call

What story will they give you

What tale will heal your heart

Blow the candle out and listen

To the words out of the dark

Daily Poem 10/30/2020

Did you question

Did you wonder

Could you have known

Would it have mattered

When the sky spread there above you

Glittering with light

And the heart pulled in your chest

The breath caught in your throat

That looking up that night

The other heart pulled closer

On the road to you

Did you know

Daily Poem 1 & 2 10/29/2020

All the beauty and despair

I saw it all the just

Unfair

And every brilliant moment

With you I wished to share

And every darkened shadow

I would hide away somewhere

Come with me, love, across the stars

Come with me to the place

Where all that has gone on about

Is rendered through the justice

Scales

And sense becomes the currency

Commonly dispensed

No flowers grew

On dusty hills

The rocks rolled round

The pebbles stilled

They danced a jig

Upon the mound

Greystone missed

A step

Went rolling down

Near the bottom

He was found

By Crow who left

A tiny crown

Upon the upside

Dwonside part

Of Greystone’s

Weather beaten

The Letters – Daily Poem 10/27/2020

Write me into being one word at a time

Ink my hair in curls and wisps shining in the evening light

Type me in a soft pink dress hanging just below the knee

With a layer of cotton and one of lace

Erase the shoes from my bare feet that I might feel the earth

Compose music of harp and flute

Played by faeries in the forest

Fill the tree limbs with letters green

Pen bark upon their trunks

Slide paragraphs like rapids down the river there

Punctuate the sounds of water running over rocks

Edit out the midges, mosquitos, and the like

Unfold this scene in details

How my eyes search for your face

When my smile shines at your approach

Wrap your arms about me

Fold me closer to you

We’ll dance out of the pages

We’ll fly and never land

We’re a dream the muses sent

We’re pilgrims on a quest

In the end we must conclude

The ink has dried

The type’s been set

The paper’s in the printing press

Send me out into the world

Hard booked or paperbacked

When you sign the copies for your fans

Allow that it’s for me they Stan

Vermont Winter – Daily Poem 10/22/2020

Throw the wood quickly
Into the stack
Winter sent the hounds
To chill the air
A nip, a warning
Prepare the kindling
Splinters like daggers
Splinters like knives
Shavings nested between blades
The black stove bones leave
Soot marks across your face
Gaskets and glue
The doors will not go back
Into place for hours
And then only by an
Unrepeatable act of magic
Replace the honeycomb
For a clean burn
Home will be warm this year
Outside the wolves howl
The owl flies silent
There is no fire great enough
To beat back the frosted hand of time
